Portugal invests €400 million to strengthen the electricity grid – what this means for those investing in self-consumption

After the blackout that affected millions of people in April, the Government announced a €400M plan to strengthen the electrical grid and prevent new failures. But what's most interesting is that part of this amount will directly support the installation of batteries and solar panels in critical infrastructure — a solution that, until now, was seen only as "complementary".

This recognition changes the game. Local energy production with storage stopped being a trend to become strategic priority.

The package includes:

   •  Installation of battery and solar energy systems in hospitals, schools, fire departments and other essential public structures;
   •  National electrical grid reinforcement with regulation technology and automatic startup systems (black start);
   •  Auctions for new storage capacities (going from 13 MW to 750 MW by 2026);
   •  Support and pilot projects with expansion potential for the private sector.

In a scenario where grid stability can be put to the test, having solar panels with battery is no longer just a savings issue. It's energy security.

At Geoclima, we already help companies install complete systems with:

   •  Solar production dimensioned to real consumption
   •  Intelligent batteries to store energy and guarantee autonomy
   •  Remote monitoring and continuous technical support
